NHMA President Makes Case for Private Investment in MH Communities
Private investment helps improve manufactured housing communities and preserve housing options. In an October 7 Concord Monitor op-ed, New Hampshire Manufactured Housing Association President Mark Tay makes that case while challenging common assumptions about community ownership.
Tay describes the substantial investment needed to repair roads, upgrade water and septic systems and address safety concerns. He also challenges the notion that resident ownership automatically delivers lower costs. Affordability depends on purchase price, financing terms and operating expenses under any ownership model.
The piece also addresses home appreciation in privately owned communities and warns that rent control can discourage investment and accelerate deterioration. Tay points readers to the association’s ManuFACTCheck.org initiative for additional information.
